Youth Who Do The Right Thing Competition

Special Announcement

The Urban League of Detroit & Southeastern Michigan (ULDSEM) is pleased to extend an opportunity for your school/church/community based organization to participate and share with youths & families involved in your programs and activities information regarding our annual “Youth Who Do the Right Thing” competition and celebration.

Each year the ULDSEM recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of youth in our community who “Do the Right Thing.” In 1996, the National Urban League launched a nation-wide initiative to celebrate young people who are achieving in school, church and their communities. Everyday, millions of youth are striving to “do the right thing”, yet their stories are seldom told. Unfortunately, not enough adults or media take the time to acknowledge the contributions young people make in our community. The Urban League of Detroit & Southeastern Michigan’s Celebrating Youth who “Do The Right Thing” Award is designed to acknowledge these young people for setting a positive example for their peers and their contributions to making our community a better place to live.

The competition and recognition is open to youth in grades 5-12 (ages 10-18 years) residing in Southeastern Michigan. We are looking for those special youths, regardless of race, social and economic background, who are making genuine contributions, excelling in school, serving their community and/or engaged in constructive activities.

We request your support and assistance with identifying youths in your school, community and/or church who have demonstrated commitments to “doing the right thing”. All completed nomination forms should be returned to:
