DTE Summer Job Opportunties

DTE Company to accept applications for its Summer Student Employment
Program Feb. 13 thru Feb. 27. The program is an important part of DTE
Energy's efforts to develop future talent for our company. It provides
full-time, temporary employment opportunities for students who are
either college undergraduates or high school seniors who will attend
college in the fall.

Students wishing to apply for an internship must complete an
electronic Summer Student Questionnaire under Careers between Feb. 13
and Feb. 27
No paper applications will be accepted. When a student
accepts an offer, he/she will receive instructions on how to complete
the application packet from the recruiter with a specified completion
date.
Applicants also should know:
The questionnaire will not be available prior to Feb. 13.  Students MUST provide a copy of their transcripts with their online questionnaire in order to be considered. Students must complete their own questionnaire.  Employee referrals are not required. Leaders may request the rehire of former students on the "Summer Student Employment Requisition" eForm.  Reporting relationships must not violate Policy EM18, Personal Relationships. Consistent with policy EM18, summer students should not be placed in an area where they are in a reporting relationship (either directly or indirectly) to employees with whom they have a familial relationship.

Students will be hired and participate in orientation on predetermined dates in May and June.

2013 Student-View Scholarship

The Student-View Scholarship is a unique opportunity for high school seniors.  It is open to all students regardless of academic achievement or financial need.
Student Insights will award the following prizes:

  • One (1) individual prize of a $4,000 scholarship.
  • Two (2) individual prize of a $1,000 scholarship.
  • Nine (9) individual prizes, consisting of $500 scholarships each

    Starting with a virtual cash account of $100,000, students strive to create the best-performing portfolio using a live trading simulation. The goal is to amass more assets in their account than any other participants. The online simulation is engaging, and the learning is a natural part of the experience.

    This program is open to all 9th through 12th grade students and the registration deadline is February 15, 2013 at midnight.  The deadline is fast approaching, but it takes just minutes to register online. The trading begins February 19 and will end as of market close on April 26th, 2013

    Future Scientist Scholarship

    Future Scientist Scholarship

    The Darwin Larson Memorial Fund awards up to two $1,000 scholarships to Detroit Public Schools high school graduating seniors who have been accepted at an accredited two- or four-year college or university and plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in physical or biological science. 

    Eligibility:
    ·         Be a Detroit Public Schools graduating high school senior;
    ·         Plan to attend an accredited two- or four–year institution within the United States;
    ·         Plan to pursue an undergraduate degree in physical or biological science;
    ·         Demonstrate community involvement;
    ·         Present evidence of financial need;
    ·         Be a United States citizen;
    ·         Have an overall minimum grade point average of 3.0 and a 3.2 grade point average in science classes; and

    Application Components:
    ·         Submit two personal letters of recommendation: one from a science teacher and one from a mentor such as a teacher, counselor, coach, or community leader;
    ·         Personal statement, not to exceed two (2) pages, addressing
    §  Future career aspirations;
    §  Community activities; and
    §  Economic need
    ·         High school transcript

    MME/ACT Test

    MME/ACT (Michigan Merit Exam/American College Testing)
    The ACT and MME exams will be administered to Grade 11 students on March 5, 6 & 7, 2013.

    About the MME/ACT
    • The MME consists of the National ACT and Work Keys tests in addition to Michigan content-area tests.  It will provide students with an ACT score report that they can use to apply to a college or university.   In addition, students will be able to use the MME to qualify for a Michigan Merit Award scholarship to help pay their costs in attending a state university, community college or a technical or trade school.   Michigan Department of Education: Michigan Merit Examination page

    Promising Youth Legacy Award



    The Skillman Foundation, in partnership with the Coleman A. Young Foundation, will award 10 scholarships up to $10,000.00 each to 10 promising Detroit youth.

    Applications must be returned as a hard copy no later than Friday, March 22, 2013
    Scholarship recipients announced by Friday, April 12, 2013.

    In honor of Skillman’s 50th Anniversary, the Foundation announced the 50 Promising Youth Legacy Awards in 2011. In 2012, the program expandedt o award 10 additional awards and scholarships to 10 promising Detroit youth. The program is being expanded to award 10 additional awards and scholarships to 10 promising Detroit youth in 2013.
    The awards will:
     (1) recognize young people as emerging leaders and as a current contributor to making a difference in their community,
    (2) ensure that Detroit and Southeastern Michigan youth attend and graduate from college
    (3) encourage young leaders to return, serve and contribute to the revitalization of Detroit and the state of Michigan.

    To be eligible for the Promising Youth Legacy Awards, youth must be nominated by a nonprofit, community-based, faith-based, social service, or school organization. The criteria for youth are:
    • Youth must exhibit extraordinary leadership and a demonstrated commitment to improving the community;
    • Youth must demonstrate that they have made a difference in the lives of others through community service, civic engagement or community leadership;
    • Youth must reside in a Skillman Good Neighborhood;
    • Youth must be ages 15-18 and college-bound, with a high school GPA of 2.5 or greater; and completing the 11th grade and currently enrolled as a high school “JUNIOR” or completing the 12th grade and currently enrolled as a high school “SENIOR”.

    The information for this award is available in the Career Center.  EEEVPA is located in the Skillman Good Neighborhood of East English Village.

    MME/ACT FAmily NIght

    The first Annual MME Family Night was a great success!  The participants were treated to outstanding presentations in preparation for the March 5, 2013 test.

    All students taking the MME/ACT test will be given a study guide for their four core class room teachers during the Week of February 15, 2013.

    Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship

    The Jackie Robinson Foundation provides scholarships of up to $24,000/four years to minority high school students showing leadership potential and demonstrating financial need to attend an accredited 4-year college or university of their choice.

    University of Michigan: Telluride Association Room and Board Scholarship



    Telluride House is a diverse community of undergraduate and graduate students who live by  Telluride Association’s three pillars: Intellectual inquiry, community service, and democratic self-governance.

    Students at Telluride House enjoy free room and board for up to 5 years, including two meals prepared daily by their chefs, and many other amenities: large public spaces to study/hangout in (including an in-house library, and a projector screen television/internet room), free Wi-Fi, and pool and ping-pong tables; free washers and dryers; a computer lab that has unlimited printing; a generously sized storage locker for belongings over the summer; and equally generous living spaces, with all students currently living in comparatively large rooms by themselves.
