MSU's RESIDENTIAL COLLEGES
Michigan State is one of the largest universities in the country, able to offer tremendous resources and opportunities to students. Yet, size is relative. MSU's residential colleges -- James Madison College, Lyman Briggs College, and the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities -- offer students the opportunity to engage in highly personalized and focused environments while having all the advantages that come with a Division I, Big Ten university. If you are interested in political science, the natural sciences, or arts and humanities check out MSU's residential college options!
Freshmen Admission Criteria
Admission to Michigan State University is competitive, but there are no minimum requirements. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. MSU strongly encourages a college preparatory curriculum in high school. Students also are advised to apply early in their senior year.
Freshman admission is based on:
- your academic performance in high school
- the strength and quality of your curriculum
- recent trends in your academic performance
- your class rank
- your ACT or SAT results
- your leadership, talents, conduct, and diversity of experience
Fall 2012 Freshman Profile*
- Entering class: 7,900 (expected)
- High school GPA: 3.4-3.9
- Composite ACT: 23-28
- Composite SAT (Critical Reading and Math): 1020-1220
* middle 50 percent of enrolled freshmen; numbers may fluctuate slightly as students confirm/cancel enrollment
